The apparatus has a tool (1) including a support head (2) with a hemispherical tip (3) pressed against a surface i.e. roughened surface (4), to be examined of granulated material of interior trim of a car perpendicularly with predetermined force. A moving mechanism provides relative displacement of the tool in a plane of the roughened surface to be examined, where the hemispherical tip has radius ranging between 5 and 10 mm and a blunt support surface against the roughened surface to be examined. The hemispherical tip is mounted on a fixing pin (5) of the moving mechanism. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing scratch resistance of a surface.
