A METHOD AND A SYSTEM FOR DETERMINING THE STATE OF CHARGE OF A RECHARGEABLE BATTERY (108), SUCH AS A NICKEL METAL HYDRIDE BATTERY, A NICKEL CADMIUM BATTERY, ETC., ARE DISCLOSED. THE METHOD INCLUDES THE STEPS OF CHARGING THE BATTERY (108) USING A SUBSTANTIALLY CONSTANT CHARGE CURRENT, MEASURING THE BATTERY TEMPERATURE, CONDUCTING A FIRST MEASUREMENT OF THE BATTERY VOLTAGE AT A TIME INTERVAL T1 FROM THE START OF THE CHARGING AND A SECOND MEASUREMENT OF THE BATTERY VOLTAGE AT A TIME INTERVAL T2 FROM THE FIRST MEASUREMENT WHERE THE FIRST MEASUREMENT IS MADE AFTER A SUBSTANTIALLY STABLE BEHAVIOUR OF THE CHANGE IN THE BATTERY VOLTAGE DURING CHARGING IS REACHED (AFTER REGION 302) AND THE SECOND MEASUREMENT IS MADE PRIOR TO REACHING A SUBSTANTIALLY UNSTABLE BEHAVIOUR OF THE CHANGE IN THE BATTERY VOLTAGE (PRIOR TO REGION 306). |
