[Problem] To use a simple configuration to improve an output waveform without providing a power transfer circuit or control for detecting the voltage and amount of current in a power source for wave distortion compensation. [Solution] A waveform compensation method for the waveform compensation of a distorted wave included in the output from an AC distorted wave power source includes a step for using a power source for wave distortion compensation to generate a distorted wave to cancel out the distorted wave component included in the distorted wave power source, and controlling so as to achieve an equilibrium at which the average value of power transfer with the power source for wave distortion compensation is zero. The output waveform can thus be improved without providing a power transfer circuit or control for detecting the voltage and amount of current in the power source for wave distortion compensation. In the control step, waveforms other than the fundamental wave component included in the distorted wave power source may be detected to generate a waveform proportional to the detected amount using the PWM control inverter of the power source for wave distortion compensation. The gain applied to the PWM control inverter in the power source for wave distortion compensation may be controlled to a level at which overmodulation does not occur. The DC operating voltage of the inverter for wave distortion compensation can thus be reduced.
