The invention relates to a method for compensating a drop in the output voltage of a motor vehicle generator due to a load connection or a rotational speed change by means of a generator controller, which provides a control signal, which has a duty factor and which increases the exciting current of the motor vehicle generator. After the voltage drop occurs, the duty factor of the control signal is increased by a difference amount in a first step, and the adjustment speed is limited in a subsequent second step.
