The method involves adjusting height of a structure (12) i.e. chassis, relative to a wheel (14) of a motor vehicle (10) using an actuator (20) i.e. electrically operated rotational actuator, assigned for the wheel as a function of a staggering state of the vehicle in an operating mode. The height of the structure is adjusted to predefined height in another operating mode by the actuator. The actuator is latched by a locking device in the latter operating mode. The locking device is released when an operating parameter e.g. speed, of the vehicle exceeds a predetermined threshold value.
