The invention relates to a diagnostic method for detecting a salmonella infection or salmonella contamination. Said method can be used in medicine, veterinary medicine, and various sectors of industry. The objective of the invention is to develop a reliable test for detecting salmonellae. The invention is based on the aim of creating a method that enables the earliest possible detection and that detects all human-pathogenic serovars. The diagnostic method for detecting a salmonella subtype according to the invention is characterized in that the specific salmonella serotype is determined clearly and in a significantly shorter time than currently possible in excretions of patients/animals, carcasses, eggs, and food/feed by a combination of a multiple number of specific antibodies against H and O antigens in an immunological 1-/2-step method.
