<p>With the present invention, images of either ahead or behind a host vehicle are acquired from a plurality of image capture devices, a disparity and a distance to an image captured object are computed from the images, the image captured object is illuminated with a pattern of light if sufficient disparity cannot be obtained, images of the object which is illuminated with the pattern of light are once more acquired from the plurality of image capture devices, and the disparity and the distance to the image captured object are once more computed. It is thus possible to provide a vehicle-mounted camera and system which carry out recognition of obstacles even in an environment wherein it is difficult to acquire disparity of obstacles in the vicinity of a vehicle.</p> |
