The purpose of the present invention is to provide an absorbent pad to be used in a test kit for immunochromatography, said absorbent pad showing a high sample liquid-absorption rate, being capable of absorbing without delay a sample liquid that is added to the test kit, having a good sample liquid-retention capability, and preventing back-flow of the sample liquid toward a chromatography medium even after a preset reaction time has passed. The present invention relates to an absorbent pad which comprises an absorbent core, said absorbent core comprising highly water-absorbent polymer particles contained in hydrophilic fibers. The present invention also relates to a test kit for immunochromatography, said test kit comprising the aforesaid absorbent pad as a constituting member.
