<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate access to an optical element needing exchange in an image projection device. <P>SOLUTION: A color separation/synthesis optical system β, an optical box 6 for storing the same, and a duct 13 connected to a duct connection opening formed in the optical box for guiding air for cooling to optical modulation elements 58R, G and B and the color separation/synthesis optical system are contained in a housing for the image projection device. The optical box and the duct are arranged adjacent to each other in a direction along an upper surface of the housing with the duct connection opening in between in the housing. On a top surface of the housing, a cover unit 19c for covering at least the top surface of the optical box, a duct retaining unit 19a for detachably retaining the duct arranged inside the housing and a top surface opening 19b enabling entry/exit of the duct to/from inside the housing are provided.
