PROJECTION TYPE VIDEO DISPLAY DEVICE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type video display device for highly precisely performing focus adjustment.

SOLUTION: The projection type video display device includes: a projecting section for projecting a focus adjusting pattern on a screen SC; an imaging section 60 imaging the focus adjusting pattern and acquiring it as a picked-up image; focusing calculating means for calculating contrast data being an evaluation value showing a focusing state of a focus of the picked-up image; and focus adjusting means for adjusting the focus of the projecting section so that the focus of projected image light is adjusted to a projecting face based on the calculated contrast data. The focus adjusting pattern has a first region and a second region, in which brightness mutually differs. The projection type video display device adjusts forms of the first region and the second region in the focus adjusting pattern so that at least one of resolution and a contrast of the brightness becomes uniform in the picked-up image.
