The method involves conveying liquid medium (4) into a buffer storage (1) of a water supply system via feed openings (6, 11-14, 22, 25, 26, 30, 70). The liquid medium provided in the buffer storage is thermally processed such that two higher altitude medium regions (37, 38) comprise two temperature values, respectively. Temperature of the liquid medium in the buffer storage is changed by a temperature change device (39) i.e. refrigerator, which is partly arranged in the buffer storage such that one of the temperature values is increased and/or the other temperature value is decreased. An independent claim is also included for a buffer storage for receiving liquid medium.
