A series compensation circuit (30) is provided on a car part of an elevator, said series compensation circuit rectifying power transmitted from an alternating current power supply (10) through a sub-transmission control cable (12), then outputting a compensation voltage by means of a single-phase inverter (22). The output from the series compensation circuit (30) is connected in series to a main power transmission control cable (11) that transmits power from the alternating current power supply (10) in an elevator machine room to various kinds of loading apparatuses (15) that are installed to the car, a compensation voltage is superimposed on the phase voltage of the main power transmission control cable (11), and a voltage drop due to the main power transmission control cable (11) is compensated.
