A high purity acetonitrile used as a module phase solvent for liq. chromatography has a low absorption in the uv wavelength region of 200-400 nm. A purification method of the crude acetonitrile comprises a first step of bringing the crude acetonitrile into contact with nascent oxygen and a second step of bringing the acetonitrile thus obtained into contact with at least one of a basic compound or an adsorbing reagent.
