EXHAUST EMISSION CONTROL DEVICE FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clean up exhaust emissions when a fuel adding means such as a fuel adding valve and a heating means such as a glow plug are provided upstream of an exhaust passage relative to an exhaust treatment device, while taking into consideration of particulate matters that are caused by the operation of those devices.

SOLUTION: An exhaust emission control device 1 for an internal combustion engine includes: a particulate amount estimating means for estimating a particulate amount that is caused by the operation of the fuel adding valve 42 and the glow plug 44 that are provided upstream relative to the exhaust treatment device 30 provided in the exhaust passage 18 and functioning to collect particulate matters; a total amount estimating means for estimating a total amount of particulate matters of the exhaust treatment device based on the particulate amount estimated by the particulate amount estimating means; and a control means for controlling the operation of the fuel adding means and the heating means based on the total amount of particulate matters estimated by the total amount estimating device.
