<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable electronic device capable of reflecting intentions of a user. <P>SOLUTION: When one of first keys is depressed in an incoming call standby state, a control part 45 executes control so as to display a first kind symbol display area 101 for displaying a first kind symbol allocated to the first key and a second kind symbol display area 102 for displaying a second kind symbol allocated to the first key. When a second key is depressed while the control is executed to display the first kind symbol display area 101 and the second kind symbol display area 102, the control part 45 executes first processing to the first kind symbol. Also, the control is executed to delete the second kind symbol display area 102. In the case that a third key is depressed while the control is executed to display the first kind symbol display area 101 and the second kind symbol display area 102, the control part 45 executes second processing for the second kind symbol.
