A client computer having one or more processors and memory, while displaying a browser application having a displayed address field, receives a user-identified document link. The client computer submits the user-identified document link to a server remotely located from the client computer. In response to a determination that the user-identified document link is inoperative, the client computer displays a plurality of distinct user-editable query terms in a search box distinct from the displayed address field of the browser application. At least one of the user-editable query terms is different from the user-identified document link, and is selected from a group including text extracted from the user-identified document link, and a term based on text extracted from the user-identified document link. |
