<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plunger for a user-friendly and safe retractable syringe, and to provide a retractable syringe with the plunger. <P>SOLUTION: The plunger 20 for a retractable syringe that comprises a retractable needle, includes a plunger rod 21, a plunger outer 22, a controlling member 50 and a biasing member, wherein the plunger rod 21, the plunger outer 22 and the controlling member 50 co-operate to releasably maintain the biasing member in an initially energized state. The retractable syringe 10 also includes a barrel 11, a retractable needle 40 and the plunger 20.
