An adhesive tape having a carrier and an adhesive layer applied to at least one side of the carrier, wherein the carrier is a thread-stitched web nonwoven carrier produced from a preconsolidated base web of staple fibres. Mutually parallel threads are stitched into the base web to form the final thread-stitched web nonwoven carrier, wherein the ultimate tensile strength of the preconsolidated but not as yet overstitched base web is less than 2 N/cm. In embodiments, the ultimate tensile strength of the preconsolidated but not as yet overstitched base web is below 1 N/cm or below 0.5 N/cm.
