摘要 <p>[Problem] To provide: a method for producing a catalyst, which is capable of improving heat resistance and is also capable of easily providing purification characteristics that are suited to various engine characteristics; and a catalyst. [Solution] A method for producing a catalyst, which comprises: a first aqueous solution preparation step (S1) wherein an aqueous solution that contains zirconium is prepared; a first pore filling step (S2) wherein the pores are filled with the aqueous solution by a pore filling method; a first drying/firing step (S3) wherein a porous alumina, the pores of which are filled with the aqueous solution, is dried and fired, so that a zirconia layer is formed in each pore; a second aqueous solution preparation step (S4) wherein an aqueous solution that contains a noble metal is prepared; a second pore filling step (S5) wherein the pores are filled with the aqueous solution obtained in the second aqueous solution preparation step (S4) by a pore filling method; and a second drying/firing step (S6) wherein the porous alumina, the pores of which are filled with the aqueous solution, is dried and fired, so that the noble metal is supported within the pores that have been provided with the zirconia layers.</p>
