<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine having a catlytic converter capable of obtaining a high exhaust purification rate inspite of using a small amount of Rh as compared with conventional one. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device 3 for an engine 1 which is provided with a catalytic converter provided in an exhaust pipe 13 of the engine 1 to purify exhaust, the catalytic converter including an upstream catalytic converter 31 and a downstream catalytic converter 33 provided on the downstream of the upstream catalytic converter 31. The upstream catalytic converter 31 is equipped with a support 315 and a first catalyst 310 including an OSC material, Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, and Pd, supported with the support 315 and having a function to store and discharge oxygen. The first catalyst 310 is equipped with a first lower layer catalyst 311 which is provided on the support 315 and in which Pd is carried only by the OSC material, and a first upper layer catalyst 312 which is provided on the first lower layer catalyst 311 and in which Pd is carried by the OSC material and Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>, respectively. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
