The method involves separating regenerative gases (R) from the exhaust gases (A) in a catalyst (C) by low pressure and again supplying into a suction line of the combustion engine (M). The regenerative gases are conducted through an electrode block (EB) with two sieve electrodes and high voltage pulses are applied on the sieve electrodes. The high voltage pulses form combustible gases (G) from the regenerative gases and the combustible gases are supplied in the combustion engine for combustion. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for recovering residual energy from the exhaust gases of a combustion engine; (2) an electrode block for use in a device for recovering residual energy from the exhaust gases of a combustion engine; and (3) a catalyst for use in a device for recovering residual energy from the exhaust gases of a combustion engine, comprises a membrane made of a ceramic-coated metallic mesh, where the coating is made of palladium.
