Adhesive bandages 10 having a backing layer 20 with first and second opposing surfaces 22 and 24, and an absorbent pad 40 associated with the backing layer 20, the absorbent pad 40 including a first surface 41 that faces the second surface 24 of the backing layer 20 and an opposing second surface 42 having a plurality of tufted regions 44 surrounded and separated by a first network of interconnecting channels 46 recessed in the second surface 42 of the absorbent pad 40; where the tufted regions 44 have a substantially uniform first density, the channel base region 48 has a substantially uniform second density that is greater than the substantially uniform first density of the tufted regions 44 and the network of channels 46 is visible.
