<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent deterioration in surface quality of a rod-shaped workpiece such as a ball screw, provided that the deterioration is caused by penetration of a cooling liquid, which is used in a cooling unit, into a heating unit when hardening the rod-shaped workpiece by the heating unit and the cooling unit arranged adjacent to each other in an axial direction. <P>SOLUTION: A hardening apparatus includes: a workpiece driving unit 2 for moving the rod-shaped workpiece (ball screw 100) in the axial direction; the heating unit 3 for carrying out induction heating of the rod-shaped workpiece; and the cooling unit 4 for cooling the rod-shaped workpiece heated in the heating unit 3, wherein the heating unit 3 and the cooling unit 4 are arranged along the moving direction of the rod-shaped workpiece. Further, a partition plate 5 is disposed between the heating unit 3 and the cooling unit 4 for partitioning the two, provided that the partition plate 5 has a partition through-hole 60 larger than the outer shape of the rod-shaped workpiece, and the rod-shaped workpiece moving in the axial direction loosely passes through the through-hole. A masking shield 6 is formed on a surface of the partition plate 5 on the heating unit 3 side, provided that the masking shield 6 has a shield through-hole 60 through which the rod-shaped workpiece moving in the axial direction passes with its periphery contacting the hole. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
