The fluid compressor has an electric motor and a device (1) for monitoring the electric motor. The monitoring device has a measuring unit (10) for measuring an actual drive current of the electric motor and a diagnostic unit (30) for comparing measured actual drive current with a predetermined reference drive current. A control unit (40) is provided to turn off the electric motor, when measured actual drive current exceeds the predetermined desired drive current. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for monitoring electric motor of fluid compressor; and (2) heat pump.
