摘要
729,041. Controlling clutches; change-speed gearing. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO., Ltd. May 6, 1953 [Feb. 12, 1952], No. 3738/52. Addition to 715,747. Class 80 (2). In a .motor-vehicle transmission system according to the parent Specification wherein a single servo-motor, effects both disengagement of the clutch and limitation of the throttle opening during a gear change, the limitation of the throttle opening is effected through linkage including a lost-motion connection such that when the servo is inoperative the throttle is movable freely throughout its whole range. As shown in Fig. 1, an engine-suction servo 25 is connected by rod 27 to lever 28 pivoted at 29, lever 28 being connected through link 32 to clutch throw-out leyer 33 and through link 37 to arm 38 pivoted, with two other arms 39, 40, at 41a. Arm 39 is connected by a rod 42, with lost motion at 43, to one arm of a bell-crank lever 44 loaded by spring 52 and fixed to throttle spindle 45. There is lost-motion connection 77, 78, Fig. 5, between arms 38, 39 such that, when arm 38 is in its normal position (i.e. servo 25 inoperative), arm 39 is free to move through an arc sufficient to move the throttle 46 through its full range, whereas when servo 25 is operative arm 39 can move only a short distance from throttle-closed position. Arm 40, loaded by a spring, is connected through Bowden cable 47, arm 48 and link 49 to accelerator pedal 50, the arms .39, 40 being normally held in fixed angular relationship by a spring 51 acting between them. A doubleacting engine-suction servo 53 acts on the other arm of lever 44. The servos 25, 53 are controlled by valve 54 actuated by solenoids 58, 59. With the gears in neutral, a switch 61 operated by the gear lever is closed and provided ignition switch 64 is closed, solenoid 58 is energized to move valve 54 to communicate engine suction to servo 25 and to both chambers of servo 53. The latter is therefore inoperative but servo 25 operates to disengage the clutch and to limit the throttle opening. At this time also, engine suction is effective to close a switch 60. A switch 63 is closed only when the clutch-driven member overruns the clutch driving member. As a gear is engaged, switch 61 opens, deenergizing solenoid 58. If, at this time, clutchdriving member is overrunning the clutchdriven member, so that switch 63 is open, solenoid 59 remains de-energized, so that both servos 25, 53 are de-energized, clutch engages and throttle is free for operation through its full range by accelerator 50 through spring 51. If, however, clutch-driven part is overrunning the driving part, switch 63 is closed, solenoid 59 is energized and suction is maintained in servo 25 and in the right-hand chamber of servo 53 so that the clutch remains disengaged and a stop 99 is projected to open the throttle. When clutch-driving part overtakes the driven part, switch 63 opens, solenoid 59 is de-energized, clutch engages and throttle is freed. As shown in Fig. 6, servo 25 is connected by rod 27 to lever 105 pivoted at 106, lever 105 being connected by link 107 to clutch throw-out lever 108 and through link 110 to arm 111 pivoted at 117, arm 111 having a lost-motion connection with arm 113 connected by link 114 to a crosshead 115 normally held against an abutment 125 on a spring-loaded rod 116 by a spring 124, rod 116 having a Bowden-wire connection 121 to the accelerator 50. Crosshead 115 is also connected by link 117, with lost motion, to spring- loaded arm 118 fast on throttle spindle 45, the servo 53 acting on arm 118. As shown in Fig. 11, servo 25 is connected by rod 27 to lever 141 pivoted at 142, lever 141 being connected by link 143 to clutch throw-out lever 144 and by rod 146, bell-crank lever 147 and link 148 to arm 149 pivoted at 150, another arm 154 pivoted at 150 having a Bowden-wire connection 156 to accelerator 50. Servo 53 acts on spring- loaded arm 151 fast on throttle spindle 45, and arm 153 pivoted at 150 engages arm 151. Arms 153, 154 are normally held in fixed angular relationship by spring 155, arms 149, 153 having a lost-motion connection 157, 158.
