The actuator (10) has a control unit (16) for reading received signals and for effecting movement of a mechanical element (12) in response to a read-out signal. The control unit evaluates the received signals at predetermined pulse width modulation (PWM) frequency in one mode, to determine end positions (S-1,S-2) of the mechanical element, and effects movement of the mechanical element to an intermediate position between the end positions in other mode.
