The respirator has a reversing valve that is placed in an expiration branch (9) and includes a recirculation flow path (17) and a fort gas flow path (15). A gas reservoir (5) is placed in the recirculation flow path and is discharged into an inspiration branch (8) through a hybrid point (12). A fresh mixture decoupling valve (13) is coupled with the hybrid point in a controlled manner and corresponds with the reversing valve under usage of control- and regulating device. An independent claim is also included for operating a breathing apparatus e.g. combined narcosis- and/or therapy respirator.
