A wind turbine rotor mounting comprises a base support18 atop a tower 4 upon which rotor support 16 e.g. a fixed rotor shaft is mounted. Both rotor and base supports have respective faces e.g. flat or undulating flanges to abut and be joined by bolts. The rotor support flange plane is inclined, e.g. 45 degrees, to be neither perpendicular to nor parallel with the rotor axis. The rotor support also comprises engagement means, e.g. hooks 21, to engage an impact damped, hook guiding receiving structure 22, e.g. part cylindrical recesses, on the base support to form a hinge. The rotor and rotor support assembly are lifted horizontally fully assembled by crane 10 above the tower and lowered onto the base support, the hooks engage the receiving structure and on further lowering the rotor assembly rotates about the hinge to a vertical installed position. Allows assembled rotor installation with a single crane and flange incline allows greater area thus joint strength. |
