PURPOSE: A vehicle navigation device and a method are provided to accurately distinguish roads, thereby supporting a user. CONSTITUTION: A vehicle navigation device comprises a map database(10) and a processing unit. The map database stores map data. The map data comprises links indicating road segments, road number icons, and additional road information icons. The processing unit is connected to a map database and controls an output of route guide information through an output device. One or more among the links are related to one or more road number icons and one or more additional road information icons. When the link is related to the road number icon and the additional road information icon, the output of the route guide information displays the link, the road number icon, and the additional road information icon.
