<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catheter allowing the effective length of a shaft to be adjusted to an optional length if necessary, and a therapeutic method for an intravascular stenosis using the catheter. <P>SOLUTION: The catheter 10 includes a flexible, hollow long-sized shaft 12; a hub 13 provided on the proximal end side rather than the shaft 12; an extensible mechanism 14 provided between the shaft 12 and the hub 13; and a fastening mechanism 16 provided on the outside of the extensible mechanism 14 and configured to be capable of fastening the extensible mechanism 14.
