<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tire air pressure monitoring system which hardly generates an erroneous alarm for a low pressure even when low pressure monitoring is carried out during an ID registration mode. <P>SOLUTION: The tire air pressure monitoring system includes an ID registration mode in which a tire ID of each tire is registered to a vehicle body, carries out a low pressure monitoring mode even during the ID registration mode, and monitors a tire air pressure of each tire. In the low pressure monitoring mode during the ID registration mode, a low pressure threshold value Px is lowered from a previous ordinary threshold value Pbs to Pmin+Pb obtained by adding a lower limit pressure threshold value Pmin to a sensor variation Pb and is set as a new threshold value. The lower limit pressure threshold value Pmin is set to either a legislated low pressure detection pressure or a legislated lowest pressure.
