<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a space light phase modulator that can enhance definition until a pixel pitch reaches about a submicron and in which the wavelength of light is not limited by wavelength-transmittance characteristics of an electrode. <P>SOLUTION: A space light phase modulator includes a plurality of pixel configuration elements. Each of the plurality of pixel configuration elements includes an electro-optical material having an electro-optical effect and two electrodes disposed so as to oppose each other on the electro-optical material. Each of the plurality of pixel configuration elements is disposed at a predetermined interval. An optical axis of the light transmitting in the electro-optical material exists between two electrodes. The dielectric constant of the electro-optical material is higher than that in a gap between a pixel configuration element and the adjoining pixel configuration element. The plurality of pixel configuration elements is disposed such that a center of gravity of each of plurality of pixel configuration elements is on the same plane perpendicular to the optical axis of light. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
