<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for modifying a surface of a stainless steel sheet, capable of imparting high corrosion resistance thereto by the solid solution of nitrogen of high concentration in a short time without forming any nitride. <P>SOLUTION: A steel sheet with the thickness of 0.5-2.0 mm is kept for 30-90 seconds at the temperature balanced with the austenitic single phase at the temperature range of 1,079-1,210°C in a furnace of the atmosphere consisting of: nitrogen with the partial pressure of 0.25-0.7 atm; and the balance being reducing gas. Nitrogen of ≥0.3 mass% is subjected to solid solution while forming the austenitic single phase on the surface of the steel sheet. The steel sheet is cooled in the furnace while keeping the gas atmosphere, and the surface of the steel sheet is maintained in the austenitic single phase with nitrogen subjected to solid solution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
