<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display controller which enables appreciation of display visually similar to a real picture appreciated from the most suitable appreciation distance peculiar to the picture when a person appreciates the picture displayed on a display unit. <P>SOLUTION: A display controller 101 acquires a size of a picture and the most suitable appreciation distance corresponding to the picture added to picture data beforehand. The display controller 101 calculates an appreciation distance as a recommended appreciation distance that the relations between the size of the picture and the most suitable appreciation distance equal to the relations between a display size and the appreciation distance based on the size of the picture, the most suitable appreciation distance and a display size of the picture.
