<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of reinforcing a fusion part and a fusion splicer capable of improving reliability in a reinforcement portion by reinforcing a fusion part so as not to generate bending, twisting, and sagging, in a fused optical fiber without using a large-scale movement mechanism, etc. that results in a cost increase. <P>SOLUTION: A stub cap 55 with an axially asymmetric structure is attached to a stub 11 and supported by a fusion work part 102, and also a long size optical fiber cord 15 is held by a fiber holder 105 with an axially asymmetric structure and supported by the fusion work part 102. Glass fibers 16, 23 are connected by fusion along an axial direction. The stub cap 55 and a transportation fiber holder 110 are moved to the reinforcement work part 102 and supported by the reinforcement work part 120 thereby to allow relative positional relation to be the same as a support state in the fusion work part 102. A reinforcement member 25 is attached to a fusion part S, while applying tension to a short size optical fiber 22 and an optical fiber cord 15 which are connected by fusion, so that reinforcement of the fusion part S is attained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
