<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head mechanism, a thermal printer unit and a thermal printer enabling reduction in cost and size. <P>SOLUTION: In the thermal head mechanism 25, a reflection type sensor 45 for detecting a roll of paper sheet S is integrally provided in the thermal head 34 including a heat generating body 37 and a drive IC 39 for driving the heat generating body 37. Besides, the thermal head mechanism 25 includes: a head substrate 35 provided with the heat generating body 37 and the drive IC 39; and a sensor substrate 41 provided with the reflection type sensor 45.
