<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that suppresses unstable discharge and improves uniformity of charging, and a method of charging. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus 10 includes a photoreceptor drum 62 that has an electrically-chargeable film formed on the surface thereof and holds an image, and a charger 66 that charges the surface of the film of the photoreceptor drum 62. The charger 66 includes a plurality of charging units having different surface roughness Ra, which is defined by JIS B 0601, for applying a DC voltage to the photoreceptor drum 62, and the charging units having smaller surface roughness Ra are configured to apply a DC voltage as the film thickness of the photoreceptor drum 62 is reduced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
