<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sheet feeding device capable of shortening time required for initial operation, and to provide an image forming apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: Upon initial operation, a tray 12 is made to continuously descend till an uppermost sheet Sa floating so that an upper limit of a suction conveyance feasible area may be exceeded is made lower than the upper limit of the suction conveyance feasible area, and when the uppermost sheet Sa is made lower than the upper limit of the suction conveyance feasible area, the tray 12 is made to stop temporarily and when the uppermost sheet Sa is made lower than a lower limit of the suction conveyance feasible area after stopping, the tray 12 is made to rise. When the uppermost sheet Sa is not made lower than the lower limit of the suction conveyance feasible area, the tray 12 is made to gradually descend while repeating steps of descending and stopping till the sheet Sa is made lower than the lower limit of the suction conveyance feasible area and the tray 12 is made to rise when the uppermost sheet Sa is made lower than the lower limit of the suction conveyance feasible area. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
