<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new distributed printing system capable of maximizing the print productivity of the entire system in the case that editing processing time per unit image is sufficiently long relative to transfer processing time. <P>SOLUTION: In the distributed printing system, a master unit divides two or more pieces of original image data into a first group to be edited by itself and a second group to request editing to a slave unit. The master unit transmits the second group to the slave unit, requests the editing, also edits the first group to generate first edited image data and transmits it to the slave unit. The slave unit edits the second group received from the master unit to generate second edited image data, transmits it to the master unit, and also continuously prints and outputs the first edited image data received from the master unit and the second edited image data.
