CHARACTER INPUT DEVICE, CHARACTER INPUT METHOD, AND PROGRAM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device that allows a driver to safely input characters while driving a vehicle.

SOLUTION: A character input device comprises: a character input device 20 and a control instruction device 22 that are provided respectively on the left and right grip parts of a steering; a stroke storage section 38 that stores data of stroke that is inputted from the character input device 20; a character recognition database 42 that stores the data of stroke constituting each character by associating the data of stroke with each of the characters; a character recognition section 40 that searches the character recognition database 42 for the data of stroke corresponding to the data of stroke stored in the stroke storage section 38 and recognizes the character; and a management section 44 that gives an instruction of the character recognition of the data of stroke stored in the stroke storage section to the character recognition section 40 when the instruction of the character recognition is inputted from the control instruction device 22, and clears the data of stroke stored in the stroke storage section 38.
