The first control device (2) periodically operates its functional modules (FB1, FB2, FB3) to control the technical process, owing to which internal states of the functional modules (FB1, FB2, FB3) are generated. When controlling the technical process using the first control device (2), data on internal states of functional elements thereof are transmitted with distribution over several cycles to a second control device (5). The second control device (5) assigns the transmitted data on internal states to its functional modules (FB1', FB2', FB3').
