<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali-free glass seal material for a solid oxide fuel battery cell. <P>SOLUTION: An alkali-free glass seal material 10 comprises a glass composition including 50-85 wt% of BaO, 4-20 wt% of SiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>, and 1-15 wt% of Al<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>as essential constituents, and at least one of 0-20 wt% of B<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>and 0-30 wt% of TiO<SB POS="POST">2</SB>. The alkali-free glass seal material 10 is arranged to: have at least one of barium silicate crystallines, BaSi<SB POS="POST">4</SB>O<SB POS="POST">9</SB>, Ba<SB POS="POST">2</SB>Si<SB POS="POST">3</SB>O<SB POS="POST">8</SB>, and Ba<SB POS="POST">3</SB>Si<SB POS="POST">5</SB>O<SB POS="POST">13</SB>in its glass matrix; have a high melting/softening point, and therefore have the difficulty in melting/softening in the operating temperature region of a SOFC 12, 700-1200°C approximately; include no alkaline component; have a thermal expansion coefficient of 9-13×10<SP POS="POST">-6</SP>/K; and allow the SOFC 12 to be joined to a peripheral member such as a gas pipe 24 at a joining temperature of 700-900°C approximately. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
