<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent ink staining by temporarily interrupting printing in order to dry ink in the midst of printing. <P>SOLUTION: A head mounted on a carriage is made to scan in a main scanning direction to perform writing (S101), and a value that shows an amount of consumption of ink is obtained using an amount of consumption of ink used in scanning print of this time and an amount of consumption of ink consumed in the last scanning performed by a predetermined number of times (for example, five times) (S102). Whether or not the value that shows the amount of consumption of ink exceeds a preset threshold is determined (S103). When it exceeds the preset threshold (YES in S103), printing is interrupted and interruption time is set (S104).
