<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus and an imaging system allowing viewing of the degrees of diaphragm adjustment and focus adjustment of a lens in a small installation space even at a job site where an FA system operates. <P>SOLUTION: An imaging element takes an image of an inspection object via an imaging optical system containing at least one of a lens and a diaphragm to obtain a one-dimensional or two-dimensional multivalued image. The obtained multivalued image is transmitted to an image processor. Information on the brightness of the multivalued image obtained by the imaging element is calculated, and information on the sharpness of the multivalued image obtained by the imaging element is calculated.
