<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that maintains the amount of a laser beam at an optimal value to expand the life of a laser beam source. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus for printing a printed matter includes: a light source; a rotary polygon mirror that subjects light emitted from the light source to deflection scanning; scanning light detection means that detects the level of the scanning light subjected to deflection scanning by the rotary polygon mirror; and attenuation amount adjustment means that adjusts the amount of attenuation of the light emitted from the light source at any value so that the level of the scanning light detected by the scanning light detection means equals a level required for printing the printed matter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
