PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance productivity by omitting alignment operation when a width dimension of an envelope has a margin to a width direction of paper.

SOLUTION: An alignment device 1 includes an alignment part 4 aligning both side ends of conveyed paper, and further includes a control part 7 which compares a difference value obtained by subtracting a width dimension obtained from paper size information of paper to be an alignment object from a width dimension obtained from envelope size information of an envelope in which the paper is sealed with a preset threshold for discrimination for executing alignment operation and performs control so that alignment operation is not executed when the threshold is exceeded.
