<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a liquid crystal display device in which a display mode for displaying information in a prescribed area defined in a whole display area with the remaining area displayed in a background color may be realized with small power consumption. <P>SOLUTION: A gate driver successively selects, in each frame, a gate line to be set to a prescribed on potential or a prescribed off potential. When none of pixels disposed in a row corresponding to a selected gate line is disposed in a specific area for displaying an image, the gate line is set to the prescribed off potential. Alternatively, when any of pixels disposed in a row corresponding to a selected gate line is disposed in the specific area, the gate line is set to the prescribed on potential.
