A process is specified for obtaining organic carboxylic acids from aqueous mixtures, for example fermentation broths, comprising the following steps: A) providing the aqueous mixture with a pH of 1 to 10, B) contacting the aqueous mixture with particles of a metal oxide and/or metal hydroxide, in the course of which the organic carboxylic acid is adsorbed onto the particles, C) contacting the particles obtained in step B) with an alkaline solution, in the course of which the carboxylic acid is desorbed, and removing the metal oxide/metal hydroxide particles from the resulting mixture. |
