The invention relates to a brake system, in particular for a motor vehicle, comprising a brake pressure supply device with at least one brake pressure supply module for providing brake pressure by means of a brake medium, a brake pressure equalization device with at least one brake pressure equalization module and at least one wheel brake circuit having at least one wheel brake cylinder for braking a wheel, the wheel brake circuit being connected to the brake pressure supply module via a first actuating member and to the brake pressure equalization module via a second actuating member, and further comprising a control device which is designed to control at least the actuating member and the brake pressure equalization device in such a manner that the volume of the brake medium for a desired brake pressure in the wheel brake circuit is adjusted as a function of a predefined parameter. According to the invention, a reduction of brake pressure in the wheel brake circuit is carried out by means of the brake pressure equalization device and by opening the second actuating member and closing the first actuating member. The invention further relates to a method for controlling a brake system and to a use thereof.
