[Problem] To provide a negative electrode material for a lithium rechargeable battery, wherein the negative electrode is a sulfide type negative electrode that has waterproofness, and the negative electrode material can exhibit excellent cycling characteristic and high output performance while maintaining high discharge capacity, and wherein no lithium dendrite is deposited even when charging is executed at low temperature. [Solution] Provided is a negative electrode material for a lithium rechargeable battery comprising sulfide glass further comprising sulfur and ingredients indicated in the following ((i), (ii)), wherein the ratio of each of the ingredients is 40-80 mole% for sulfur, 1-50 mole% for ingredient (i), and 1-50 mole% for ingredient (ii).
